Overview
This refresher course is based around current legislation around the management of Lifts, including the Lift Regulations 2016, PUWER, LOLER, British Standards, SAFED guidance notes, HTM 08-02 and other relevant current legislation such as European and British Standards. This 3-day course is theory based within PPL Training Centre and covers the requirements to manage the servicing maintenance and inspection requirements of all lifts generically.
Who is the course aimed at?
Personnel already appointed as Authorised Person Lifts, to manage their lifts in the healthcare environment with a renewed understanding of current legislation, regulations, roles and responsibilities and who should undertake these. In addition, the course reminds the delegates of the inspections and examinations required for lifts, as well as the safety examinations required of electrical and mechanical items.

- Understand typical lift installations within healthcare, basic design considerations, maintenance & thorough examination requirements
- Understand typical issues experienced to lift equipment and how to prevent basic problems occurring
- Apply safe working methodology within a lift environment to the required legislation and guidance
- Regulations to consider LOLER, PUWER, Manual Handling Regulations
- Introduction to the documentation required to meet the legal and regulatory obligations applicable to lift installations
- Effective contract management of Lift Engineering provider and ensuring the requirements of effective Trust are met
- Management of the typical safety hazards experienced within the lift environment, in accordance with current regulations
- Detail the Professional roles and responsibilities of the respective safety management structure, in accordance with HTM 08-02 Define Lift owners or duty holders responsibility’s (i.e. that applies to all)
- Define the term Competent Person, in accordance with LOLER, and what is expected in relation to servicing, inspecting and written schemes of examination Define SAFED and the supplementary testing requirements
- Discuss the requirements of safe release a trapped lift passenger, in accordance with current best practice, including the requirements of
- BS7255 to ensure best site conditions for safe release
- Requirements of Auditing and Monitoring of Lift Contractor and preparation for AE Audits
- Completion of the required control documentation to facilitate works within Lift environment
- Completion of written and practical assessment to the required course standard
