Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
About
Yeovil Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is the organisation responsible for running Yeovil Hospital.
The Trust is overseen by a Board of executive and non-executive members which ensures the Hospital is properly and efficiently run, providing patients with the best possible experience and outcome.
We have around 2,200 staff, working to care for approximately 185,000 people, primarily in south Somerset, North and West Dorset and parts of Mendip.
Our Hospital has 345 beds, and a private patients’ wing, the Kingston Wing. We provide a full-range of clinical services, including general medicine, cardiology, general surgery, orthopaedic surgery, trauma and paediatrics, with an emphasis on enhanced recovery – this means we help people to recover as quickly as possible so they can return home. We also work hard to keep our waiting times as low as possible, meeting and exceeding the standards demanded of us through national targets.
Each year, we see around 20,000 emergency admissions, 3,500 elective admissions, and 18,000 day cases. More than 40,000 people attend our accident and emergency department each year, our maternity department delivers nearly 2,000 babies, and our intensive care unit looks after many hundreds of people.
Most of our services are provided from the Hospital site, although we offer an increasing number of clinics in South Petherton Hospital.
The majority of funding for our hospital is provided by the Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), Somerset CCG or Dorset CCG. It is the responsibility of these Groups to meet the costs of NHS hospital care provided for their local residents.
As a Foundation Trust we have a large public membership – approximately 8,000 people – represented by a Council Governors, which helps to maintain our focus on the patient experience at all times. Details about becoming a member can be found elsewhere on this site.
We are regulated by NHSE/I and the Care Quality Commission (CQC). We currently meet all the essential standards expected by CQC.
