Job Title: Engineering Maintenance Technician
Overview
To assist the Hospital Estates Department in the provision of an efficient and cost-effective system of maintenance and installation of complex mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering building services and associated equipment. All in accordance with current legislation, standards, guidance and good working practices. To understand the complete working of the mechanical or electrical/ electronic systems of the hospital and to demonstrate commitment and flexibility particularly in relation to new technology.

Formal Qualifications, education & training required
Recognised mechanical or Electrical Engineering or building services apprenticeship or equivalent NVQ
Specialised training in a Health Estate related subject
Mechanical or electrical cross-trade training
Desirable – B(Tech) National Certificate or ONC in an engineering or building services related subject
Essential skills and competencies
Maintenance and repair of Mechanical Building Services Installations OR Maintenance and repair of Mechanical Engineering plant and equipment OR Installation of Mechanical Building Services
Minimum 5 years post apprenticeship work in a mechanical engineering or building service environment
Testing and commissioning of mechanical building services
Desirable skills and competencies
Health and Safety at Work Act.
Understanding the principles of water systems, ventilation systems, steam distribution, air conditioning, drainage systems, sterilisers/disinfectors, electrical distribution and BMS systems.
Essential experience
Minimum 5-year post apprenticeship work in an engineering or building services environment
Minimum 2 years experience as an engineering craftsman in an acute healthcare environment Maintenance and repair of complex Building Service installation
OR
Maintenance and repair of complex engineering plant and equipment
