This course is for those with a limited fire safety background, who require an understanding of the principles of fire safety and application of fire precaution and techniques.
Aim
To provide a knowledge of the principles of fire safety and fire science. This will allow learners to gain an understanding of the concepts of fire prevention and fire protection and prepare them to undertake further fire safety training.
Objectives
- Understand the principles of fire and the combustion process
- Understand the risk assessment process
- Comprehend the mechanism of smoke production and characteristics of smoke movement
- Recognise the hazards presented by fire and smoke within the built environment
- Describe the characteristics of human behaviour in response to fire
- Identify the principles of fire safety and the concepts used to protect from building occupant’s fire
- Understand the principles of fire resistance and fire protection
