Following the completion of the foundation works, all 20 building modules, each weighing over 20 tonnes, have been installed on site. The modules were constructed off site at ModuleCo’s Gloucestershire manufacturing campus, and delivered at 90% completion. Internal fit-out work are now under way, with the project on track for completion and handover this June.
During the module installation, Jonathan Brindley, ModuleCo’s Project sponsor and Sales director, said: “While work continues on the internal fit-out, it’s rewarding to see the building now physically taking shape, bringing us closer to handover, and helping the Trust expand its capacity for diagnostic services.”
Designed as a long-term solution to the growing demand for diagnostic services in Dartford and the surrounding area, the 1,160 m² standalone building will replace a temporary facility installed in November 2023. Thie CDC is being delivered using ModuleCo’s ‘Factory First’ approach to construction. By completing ‘the vast majority’ of the construction process off site while foundation works take place, the company says it is able to significantly reduce project risk and delivery times.
The building layout was developed in close collaboration with the Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust team. The ground floor will include:
- CT and MRI scanning rooms, each with a separate control room.
- Incoming and outgoing waiting rooms.
- Assessment rooms for respiratory, ECHO, phlebotomy, ultrasound, and ECG/ambulatory services.
- Administration and office space, two stores, an IT room, and utility areas.
- Changing rooms.
Garrett Turbett, who is leading the project on behalf of the Trust, added: “It’s fantastic to see the North Kent CDC progressing at pace. The modular and off site approach has allowed us to keep momentum on site, while minimising disruption to patients and staff.”
ModuleCo is delivering the CDC as a full turnkey solution in partnership with the Trust and NHS Property Services. This includes design, off site construction, foundation works, module installation, and integration of specialist diagnostic equipment.
