The ISO 14001 standard helps organisations improve environmental performance through more efficient use of resources and reduction of waste. ISO 14001 is the world’s most widely used standard for environmental management systems. Key aspects include planning, target-setting, implementation, documentation, training, checking, and review.
By implementing ISO 14001, DDC Dolphin says it can:
• ensure compliance with environmental legislation.
• minimise waste.
• promote sustainable practices that can lead to cost savings.
• increase stakeholder confidence.
• promote a culture of ongoing environmental performance improvement.
The 14001 accreditation follows DDC Dolphin’s move to a new ‘sustainable’ headquarters in Poole in August 2022. The 2,177 m2 Dorset head office and technical facility is 2.6 times the size of its predecessor. It features:
Nearly 300 m2 of rooftop solar panels – generating 61.56 kilowatts of power at peak output.
Lower levels of air permeability – reducing the need for heating. Actual consumption of heating, cooling and lighting energy are all below notional levels.
Motion-controlled lighting to reduce energy use.
Showers for cyclists to encourage active travel to work.
Dedicated toilet and shower facilities for disabled people.
DDC Dolphin Marketing and HR director, Zoe Allen, said: “As an NHS preferred supplier, we want to help NHS Trusts to hit their Net Zero targets. The service is aiming for Net Zero by 2040 for its directly controlled emissions – and by 2045 for the emissions it influences through its supply chain. We’re part of that supply chain, so we’re absolutely determined to help the NHS – and in doing so, we can go on to help care home groups to meet their targets too. ISO 14001 is an important step forward in that process – providing an internationally recognised framework that helps us to reduce our carbon footprint.”
Qualifying capital equipment from DDC Dolphin is eligible for tax breaks. Companies can apply for a tax cut of up to 25 p for every pound they invest.
DDC Dolphin refurbishes sluice rooms in hospitals and care homes – offering a turnkey service as a single source supplier. This service includes a free initial consultation and a free design survey.
