Big Bang Fair 2024: In June 2024, IHEEM was delighted to attend the Big Bang Fair 2024, at the NEC in Birmingham, which was attended by over 20,000 students and young people. Over the course of a three-day event, participants could enjoy and learn from interactive exhibitor displays, listen to an inspiring range of talks and presentations, and celebrate the ingenuity and vision of their peers as winners of the Big Bang awards were announced.
LEGO Workshop at Bedales School: In March 2024, IHEEM representatives and President, Alison Ryan, delivered a STEM workshop at Bedales School, Hampshire. Delivered to groups of students over a full day, the workshop included a presentation from Alison Ryan on her motivations for pursuing a career in healthcare engineering, and a practical activity where students were asked to design and build a LEGO hospital in teams, with specific considerations.
You can read more about the workshop delivery and the positive impact on students in our article for the Health Estate Journal, here:
Faraday Challenge: IHEEM was a proud theme partner of the IET Faraday® Challenge 2021-22, an annual competition of STEM activity days with a real-world challenge for pupils aged 12-13 years. The Virtual Faraday® Challenge was also open to 7-15 year olds who took part as individuals, a school peer group, or a family group.
For the 2021-22 season’s challenge, IHEEM tasked teams to design a prototype to be used in a children’s hospital to make a stay in hospital more comfortable for young patients, as well as their families, carers, and friends. The competition saw 165 IET Faraday® Challenge Days take place across the UK with 285 schools, 959 teams and 5,429 students involved.
The National Final took place on 29th June 2022 at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, with St Aidan’s School from North Lanarkshire being chosen as the season’s champions!
The Virtual IET Faraday® Challenge received 29 entries with 123 participants involved.
